We put every batch through a damp-heat aging process that’s designed to break them. If they can survive our lab, they can survive your shower.
The Deal with IP65
You’ll see “IP65” on the spec sheet. In plain English? It means the housing is tight enough to keep out dust and handle water jets. But here’s the thing: steam is sneaky. It gets into every tiny gap. If a bit of moisture hits the electrical terminals or leaks through the quartz seal, the lamp shorts out or the filament just dies. We obsess over the seal where the lamp meets the power lead. Because if that fails, it’s not just a broken product—it’s a safety hazard.
How the Aging Test Actually Works
We don’t just turn the lamps on and hope for the best. We stress them. We cycle them through extreme heat peaks and humid troughs to simulate years of actual use. We’re looking for “creep” in the insulation or any sign of rust on the contacts. Quartz glass moves when it gets hot. The seals have to be flexible enough to move with that glass without cracking. If a seal gives way during our test, it’ll definitely give way in a customer’s home. We run these things for over 500 hours in wet heat, checking all the time to make sure the power output stays steady.
The Balancing Act
There’s a tricky trade-off here. High-wattage lamps get incredibly hot. The same IP65 seal that keeps the water out also traps that heat inside the housing. If you make the seal too tight, the internal temperature spikes, and you’ll fry the filament way too early. It’s a bit of a tightrope walk. We’ve spent a lot of time picking materials that can handle that “heat soak” without warping or failing. It’s not the easy way to build a lamp, but it’s the only way to make one that actually lasts.
