
Why we obsess over insulation in our woodworking lamps
If you’ve ever spent a day in a high-end woodworking shop, you know the deal. It’s a chaotic mix of constant vibration, heat, and a thick layer of sawdust covering everything. In a place like that, a tiny insulation failure is more than just a blown fuse. It’s a spark in a room full of combustible dust. That’s a nightmare scenario. That’s why we don’t take chances. Every single tube we make goes through high-voltage (HiPot) and insulation resistance testing before it even thinks about leaving our factory.
How the testing actually works
Basically, we push the insulation to its limit. We hit it with a voltage way higher than what the lamp will ever see during normal use. Why? Because we’re hunting for the tiny stuff—microscopic cracks or little impurities in the quartz and ceramic seals that you could never see with the naked eye. If the current leaks even a little bit past our limit, the tube is tossed. We aren’t interested in “good enough.” We want to find the breaking point here, in our shop, so it doesn’t happen in yours.
The reality of sawdust and electricity
Here is the thing about woodworking: the dust is everywhere. It’s fine, it’s invasive, and if it gets a bit of moisture on it, it can actually carry electricity. If your lamp’s insulation isn’t rock solid, that dust can create a path for electricity to leak right into the machine’s chassis. Our tests make sure that doesn’t happen. But a quick heads-up: our lamps can only do so much. You’ve got to make sure your machine’s grounding is actually up to spec. Even the best insulation in the world can’t save you if your equipment isn’t grounded properly.

Some companies just test a few random samples from a batch and hope for the best. We don’t do that. We test 100% of our output. Every. Single. One. It takes more time, but it means the engineers using our gear don’t have to gamble. When you plug these lamps into your assembly, you can breathe easy knowing the barrier is intact.
